This particular story may not be particularly important, but it is somewhat interesting in showing how people move around the globe, and that some get imprisoned abroad. There were 10,553 people imprisioned in Belgium at the end of last year, of whom 6,051 were Belgian, and others of diverse nationalities from 110 countries. Moroccans constituted the largest group with 1,182 prisoners. Apparently, 166 prisoners have escaped since 2007 from Belgian prisons.
