Despite his age and recent health problems, the news that Prince Philip has passed away this morning still came as a sudden shock and it felt rather unsettling, as he had been a constant presence for such a long time. Many people will undoubtedly have many things to say about him over the next days and weeks. However one views his life and legacy, Prince Philip had established and played the role of the consort to the Queen within the modern British constitution as well as changing society for nearly 70 years, and this is truly remarkable. Today it does feel as if one of the pillars of the country is no more.
