Are you a responsible dog-walker? This question, printed prominently on a big banner, greets visitors to Wimbledon Common. Perhaps I have been fortunate, but I have never had unpleasant encounters with out-of-control dogs in Wimbledon Common. In my experience, dogs and their owners are mostly friendly, and if not friendly then well-behaved. I wonder what led to its erection. I doubt this is something that would have been put up proactively. Were there incidents or complaints about irresponsible dog-walkers? If so, that would likely to be a case of a small minority diminishing the enjoyment of the many – both two-legged and four-legged – who happily share the common space.
