In the current lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, I have been taking a keener interest in the nature that can be observed from my window and balcony. Even though I would like to spot the pretty songbirds that are singing so delightfully, I am very happy to see any bird visiting my balcony, except for feral pigeons. Over the past few days I have been seeing quite a lot of wood pigeons, as well as magpies and those cursed feral pigeons. It is always hazardous and perhaps lazy to anthropomorphize, but wood pigeons seem to wear a startled and somewhat comical expression, and that is probably why I like them.

A couple of days ago, there was a wood pigeon eagerly and busily pecking at a bread roll that was thrown on to the grass by a neighbour. Google Photos created the following two gif animations.
