There are many animals that divide opinions. Feral pigeons are one such example. Some consider these pigeons to be rats with wings, while others feel that they are misunderstood and unfairly maligned. I am closer to the former group of people: I just don’t like them.
Before the current lockdown, I bought a bird feeder on sale at Robert Dyas and hung it on my balcony in the hope that it would help and attract songbirds. In most part, the feeder has attracted feral pigeons. These pigeons aren’t threatening in the way bossy gulls are, so I do not have an irrational fear of them, but somehow I cannot appreciate their beauty that some people see in them. They coo and poo on my balcony, and bob their freakish pigeon heads in their freakish pigeon fashion. For good measure, they also give that freakish pigeon stare at me when I am minding my own business.
