Yesterday, I went to the Borders Express shop in Fulham Broadway station. It was closing down, and unable to resist buying books, I purchased a few volumes at 50% ~ 60% discount. The book trade is going through a tough time at the moment, and according to press reports, Borders may be close to going into administration. It’d be a shame to lose Borders / Books Etc shops, even if I rarely purchased books there. The physical presence of bookshops is somehow reassuring. With a Starbucks cafe in their shops, Borders / Books Etc shops were like outposts of North America, and also a place where I spent a lot of time with other students.
Update: 27/11/2009 – Borders has gone into administration.
NB: This is Borders in the UK, not the US.
