There are two establishments you are bound to find in any European city of certain size: a branch of that symbol of capitalism, MacDonald’s, and an Irish pub. Uppsala, where I have been staying for a while, is no exception. There is a relatively large Irish pub right in the centre of the town, and I paid a visit. It comes with all the trappings of Irishness but this particular pub came without the tackiness that accompanies so many others. The beer selection was impressive, even if a pint of beer costs you around 5 pounds in British money.
