The pound is still falling against the euro and it is hovering around 1.06 euros at the moment. The inhabitants of the Republic are already crossing the border to Northern Ireland to do their shopping, so why can’t something similar be arranged for Britain’s continental neighbours? Instead of the home counties middle-class types who take their big Volvos to Calais, the UK supermarket chains or perhaps the likes of Carrefour could build a hypermarket for the shopper from France and Belgium.
