This fishmonger is situated in the basement of a department store. It used to be darker, noisier, and slightly dirtier. The sellers used to recite in their booming voices the day’s special offers, and how fresh the products were. Some of that still goes on, but it’s now a lot lighter, perhaps too bright, quite a bit quieter, and very clean and sanitized. It used to feel like a market stall where good things came cheap, but now it resembles a posh shop, though that’s not surprising given this is the basement of a department store.
